Newborn Session

Are you pregnant? Are you thinking of booking a newborn photography session for your new babe? Here is some information that will be helpful for you before booking!

First and foremost, it’s essential to understand that newborn photography is a unique and delicate genre of photography! Usually this is a genre that only some photographers specialize in as it does require experience and training to ensure the safety of baby! Capturing the perfect shot of a newborn requires patience, skill, and a deep understanding of their physical and emotional needs. That’s why it’s crucial you select a photographer (like me) who specializes in newborn photography!

What is the best timeframe for a newborn session?

The best time to book a newborn session is during your pregnancy, ideally in your second trimester! This allows you to secure a spot and gives you time to plan for the session. Newborn sessions are typically done within the first two weeks of the baby’s life (5-15 days) to capture their delicate features and sleepy poses! It’s important to book in advance to ensure availability during this narrow window! If you think you’ll want to book please reach out! However, if you’ve missed the opportunity, don’t worry! Many photographers will still be able to capture beautiful images of your little one, although the style of the newborn session changes it is still so beautiful! Remember, the most important thing is to capture these moments that will go by so so fast.

What if your babe is older than 4 weeks?

Typically, when a baby is older than 4 weeks they will be a lot more alert which means lots of eye contact and a whole lot less sleep (if any)! This means, those sleepy, wrapped and posed photos may not be successful! The photos we will get are still going to be beautiful and document this stage of their newborn journey so don’t stress if it slipped your mind on booking before babe entered this world!

What is your babe was premature?

It’s important to note that the age for a premature baby would be adjusted age for these timelines. Adjusted age is calculated by subtracting the number of weeks a baby was born prematurely from their actual age. For example, if a baby was born 4 weeks premature and is now 3 weeks old, their adjusted age would be 1 week old.

When scheduling your newborn session, it’s important to keep in mind that every baby is different, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach! Some babies may be sleepier than others, while others may be more alert. I will work with you to determine the best approach for your baby and ensure that safety is always the top priority.

Also, don’t forget about family portraits! I know you just had a baby and you’re most likely not feeling like a supermodel but let me tell you these moments will look so different before you know it and you’ll look back wishing you had documented you’re whole family in that moment!

Our memories forget how little that babe once was so I am so grateful to be able to give you these memories to cherish for years to come!!
